PRIMARY MUSIC
We encourage every child to fulfil their musical potential.
Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way that pupils feel, think and act. It brings together feeling and expression and enables reflection and personal development.
Regardless of ability level, we encourage every child to share our enthusiasm and passion for music, so that pupils will develop a life-long love of music. Our aim is to foster individuality, creativity and expression, challenging pupils to further improve as performers and to be the very best they can be.
Pupils are given the opportunity to begin piano lessons in Reception and violin or cello lessons in Year 1. An infant choir and infant string orchestra rehearse every week to prepare for the many opportunities in our annual musical calendar.
As the children move into Key Stage 2, they are given the opportunity to try a wide range of instruments and are assessed on their suitability with recommendations then made to parents. We have a wide and varied instrumental programme, including 3 choirs, 2 orchestras, 2 string ensembles, a wind band, theory groups to name but a few.
Every child has the opportunity to act and sing in a play or musical and there are numerous concert opportunities for our choirs and ensembles.
