Derby High School Celebrates Excellent Results
Two years of hard work, determination and ambition came together today as students at Derby High School opened their GCSE results, and there was a great deal to celebrate. 63% of all grades were awarded at grades 7–9, with an outstanding 44% at grades 8 and 9, the equivalent of the former A*. Across the year group, one third of students achieved grades 7, 8 and 9 in every one of their GCSE subjects.
These are impressive figures, reflecting the commitment with which this year group has approached their GCSEs. But they tell only part of the story.
Throughout the past two years, these students have balanced the demands of their studies with busy and varied school lives. They have performed in concerts and productions, represented their school in sport, completed Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, achieved music and LAMDA qualifications, taken on leadership responsibilities, travelled, competed and volunteered. Alongside revising, practising, questioning and persevering, they have continued to discover what they enjoy, where their talents lie and the people they want to become.
Amy Chapman, Head of Derby High School, said:
“I am incredibly proud of this year group. These results are a wonderful achievement, but so too is everything they have accomplished alongside them. They are talented, determined young people who have contributed enormously to our school, and today they thoroughly deserve to celebrate.”
The results continue a remarkable summer for Derby High, following last week’s record-breaking A Level results, and reflect the School’s belief that academic ambition should sit alongside a rich and varied education.
For many of the students celebrating today, the next chapter will be Derby High Sixth Form, while others will take their next steps elsewhere. All move forward with much to be proud of and much to look forward to.
Today is about celebrating not only what these young people have achieved, but everything they have become along the way.
