Derby High School Celebrates A Level Results

Derby High School is delighted to share the excellent achievements of their Year 13 leavers. This year’s A level results are a reflection not only of their academic excellence but also of their dedication to a broad range of endeavours that have shaped them into well-rounded, accomplished young adults.

Derby High students have truly excelled, with 75% of grades at A*-B and an impressive 53% at  grades of A*-A. 27% of all grades were A*, an increase from last year.

In German, Fine Art, Further Maths and English, 100% of students achieved an A* or A grade and in French, Music, RS, Textiles, Product Design and Theatre Studies, 100% of students achieved an A*, A or B grade. These results represent just one dimension of their success having embraced a multitude of challenges, demonstrating outstanding commitment and resilience across various fields:

• Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards: Many Derby High students have completed this prestigious award, showcasing their leadership, perseverance, and community service.

• Music and LAMDA Excellence: High achievements in both music and LAMDA examinations highlight their creative talents and dedication to the arts.

• Sporting Prowess: Derby High students have proudly represented the school, county, and regional teams, demonstrating teamwork and discipline.

• STEM Accomplishments: With qualifications and awards in STEM fields, they have proven their capability in areas critical to the future.

• Valuable Work Experiences: They have sought and gained meaningful work experiences, preparing them for the professional world.

• Extended Project Qualifications: Through these rigorous research projects, students have showcased their ability to conduct independent research, a skill essential for higher education and beyond.

Derby High leavers are now set to embark on the next chapter of their academic journeys, with many heading to top universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions, to pursue a diverse array of subjects ranging from medicine to languages, and law to economics. Their success is a testament to their intellectual curiosity, creativity, and the holistic education they have received at Derby High.

Amy Chapman, Head, reflecting on their accomplishments said “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 cohort. They have not only achieved remarkable academic results but have matured into confident, skilled, and compassionate young adults. Their successes in the classroom, on stage, in the laboratory, and within the community, highlight the true value of a Derby High education.”

Derby High students leave the school as articulate, ethical, and ambitious individuals, each having made significant contributions to and gained immeasurable benefits from the school’s vibrant community.

Amy Chapman concludes, “Today, we celebrate not just their grades but the incredible, multi-talented individuals they have become. Congratulations to the Class of 2024 – your diverse achievements fill us with pride, and we eagerly anticipate the impact you will make on the world!”
