BEYOND
The Classroom
From Reception to Year 6 the children will experience topic work, performances, class assemblies, visits from guests, themed days and school trips. Diary dates each year include a variety of charity fundraising activities.
All these special events help to build confidence, enhance understanding and bring our curriculum to life.
With plenty of space to take learning outside the classroom, all our pupils are able to benefit from the space and facilities Derby High has to offer. This included the conversation area, trim trail, pond garden, forest school and sports field.
Residential visits are eagerly anticipated by each junior year group (Year 3 to 6), and are an important part of life for pupils at Derby High Primary. Residential trips develop children’s independence, as they have to organise their own belongings and take responsibility for their own decisions, under watchful supervision. There is a great sense of adventure which develops and grows from the first days out to places like Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire, to spending a week away in France in Year 6.
A school trip gives a great sense of community and learning and having fun together.
With a calendar of house events throughout the year, our house system encourages co-operative links between all year groups and nurtures a sense of team spirit, competition and fun.
