As we reach the end of another academic year, I have found myself reflecting on just how much
there is to be proud of.
In my assembly with the children on Thursday, we listened to Proud by M People. One lyric in
particular has stayed with me: “What have you done today to make you feel proud?” It is such a
simple question, yet a powerful one.
When I look back over this year, my answer is easy. I feel incredibly proud of our Derby High
community.
Proud of the children, who have embraced every opportunity with curiosity, kindness and courage.
Proud of our staff, who work tirelessly every day to create an environment where children are
known, supported and encouraged to flourish. Proud of our parents, whose partnership with us
makes such a difference. Most of all, proud of the sense of community that makes Derby High
Primary such a special place to belong.
This final week has captured that spirit perfectly. On Tuesday evening, our Primary Showcase
celebrated the incredible breadth of talent across the school. Whether performing on stage,
presenting artwork or sharing projects, our children demonstrated confidence, creativity and a
genuine enjoyment of learning. It was a wonderful evening and a reminder that education is about
so much more than what can be measured in a classroom.
Last night, our Primary Music Concert was another memorable occasion. The confidence, musicality
and joy shown by every performer were simply wonderful to see. Events such as these only happen
because of the dedication of so many people, and I would like to thank our talented music team, all
of the staff who supported behind the scenes and, of course, every child who took to the stage.
