In my assembly yesterday, I spoke to the children about friendship, what it means to truly show up for one another, not just in the good times, but when life feels a little harder.
As we listened to the theme tune from Friends, with its familiar line “I’ll be there for you,” I invited everyone to think about how we can be that kind of friend, someone who offers kindness, courage and curiosity to others. Towards the end of the school year, when the sun is hot and tiredness starts to creep in, friendships can sometimes fray. Small things can feel bigger than they are. That is why it is so important to pause and remind ourselves of what really matters, noticing when someone needs a smile, having the courage to stand up for others, and being curious enough to really listen and understand.
I have been so proud to see these values reflected around school this week, in kind words, shared laughter, helping hands, and quiet moments of care. As we approach the final stretch of term, it is these everyday choices that hold our community together, and show what it really means to say: “I’ll be there for you.”
