This morning in assembly, we had a first, something that marks an exciting step in the life of our school. For the first time, applicants for Head and Deputy Head Prefect delivered short speeches to the entire senior school. This is an important moment, not just for those standing for these positions, but for our whole school community. Leadership in the Sixth Form is about far more than a title; it’s about responsibility, service, and being a role model. While the Head Prefect roles may be the most visible, they are just one part of a much broader leadership structure. Our students apply for the positions that align with their interests and strengths, whether that is mentoring younger pupils, leading in sport, supporting charity initiatives, or helping to shape school life in other ways. These roles give Sixth Formers the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way, develop key skills, and leave a lasting impact on Derby High.
