Our School

Vision & Values

Derby High is a coeducational independent day school with over 680 boys and girls aged 3-18, conveniently situated on the outskirts of Derby.

Derby High School prides itself on its friendliness, and visitors to the school invariably comment on the calm and happy atmosphere in the school and the excellent relationships between the children and the staff.

One of the great strengths of the school is its broad social and cultural intake.

The school has a Christian foundation in the Anglican tradition, but our school community includes those of all faiths and none and while our values maintain our Christian tradition, we seek to learn from and celebrate the diversity of cultures and beliefs within the school.

Derby High was awarded the highest possible ‘Excellent’ rating following a full inspection from the Independent Schools Inspectorate in January 2023. Being a member of The Heads’ Conference (HMC), a prestigious association of leading independent schools in the UK and around the world, recognises our commitment to academic excellence, innovation in education, and a dedication to providing our students with the best possible educational experience.

Derby High is a vibrant and successful school.

We're thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our Key Stage 2 pupils who enthusiastically participated in the Step into the NHS Competition. The competition tasked the children to showcase the diverse roles within the NHS, through artwork or creative writing.

We're proud to announce that Sai (Year 3), Dhian (Year 3), Jack (Year 5), and Layth (Year 6) have all been awarded Highly Commended for their outstanding entries. Georgia's (Year 5) remarkable artwork achieved 'Regional Winner' in the competition.

Georgia has been invited by the NHS to the Winners Day on June 13th, where she'll present her entry to the panel of judges. This is a fantastic opportunity for her, and we wish her the best of luck!

We commend all of our pupils who took part in the competition for their creativity and effort. Their participation reflects their engagement and enthusiasm for learning about the vital roles within the NHS.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for breakfast this morning and last Friday in The Refectory. Community is important to us at Derby High School. We are delighted with our new dining facility which allows our whole school to dine together under one roof.
Thank you to everyone who`s been involved in this wonderful project.

Today was the final day of school for Year 11 before they head off on study leave; GCSE exams begin next week. To reward the students for their hard work in and out of the classroom these past couple of years, we invited the ice-cream van into the crescent outside school for a break time treat. In the afternoon, the year group came together for an assembly where each of our students were individually celebrated; this was all rounded off by cake in The Refectory. We wish all of our Year 11 students the very best for their examinations.

This week the Year 13 Physicists took a break from their busy schedules in school to visit Jodrell Bank Observatory in Manchester. Starting with a chance to have a go at some hands-on activities they then attended a workshop where, using data from the world leading Lovell Radio Telescope and their A level understanding of circular motion, gravitational fields and astrophysics, they were able to calculate the mass of the universe! They then had a very enjoyable planetarium show on how the elements are made from stars and after lunch had a chance to fully explore all the exhibits on display including an exhibition on astrophotography.
Following the all-important trip to the gift shop, it was time to head home. This was a fun end to 2 years of hard work in Physics for our Year 13 and a great way to support their learning.
