Last night the Senior Hall was full with parents, grandparents and siblings for our Years 3 and 4 production of Wiz Wham Alakazam by Niki Davies. The confidence displayed by our pupils was truly remarkable, and their performances were nothing short of extraordinary. From beautiful singing, to the excellence in acting, the level of talent on display was awe-inspiring.

Beautiful performance, enjoyed every bit of it…😍
I do so wish I could have attended. Looks very good.
Gorgeous photos! 🎉
Wow! Looks incredible! 🤩
They were all brilliant! Loved the ice creatures..
This year’s House Drama competition took place this week, with the whole senior school watching excitedly. St Andrew and St George performed comedies. St Andrew’s play ‘Nickers’ had the audience laughing at an argument between burglars, while another pair of thieves searched for a pot of gold in St George’s ‘The End of the Rainbow’. St David and St Patrick’s plays raised the tension, St David with a tense story about ‘Murder in the Green Room’ and Patrick with their chilling version of ‘The Monkey’s Paw’.
There were fantastic performances by each cast, leaving the judges with a difficult decision about which play and performer should win. In the end, St George were victorious, and our Drama Prefect won best performance.
Well done to all the cast and crew!

For @bbcchildreninneed , our pupils in Primary dressed as someone who inspires them. There was a buzz of excitement around school as the children were heard talking about all the various people in their lives who inspire them. The children had an assembly on Wednesday where they had lots of fantastic ideas of people who they look up to and have a positive impact on them. We discussed the aim of the charity to improve the lives of thousands of children and the importance of every child having the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Last week, we welcomed Sufiya Ahmed, a well-respected author with an impressive body of work. Her visit could not have been better timed, as our entire school was in the midst of celebrating UK Parliament Week. The day began in the library, where a group of Year 8 history students got a glimpse into Sufiya`s sources of inspiration for her historical fiction books, her role models, and her advocacy for better representation of young Asian girls in children`s literature. In the next session, a gathering of sixth form and Year 11 students had the opportunity to learn about Sufiya`s involvement in a book called "It`s Not About the Burqa." After lunch, Year 7 and more Year 8 students gathered for an assembly-style session, where they impressed Sufiya with their knowledge of history and their ability to recall the names of several Prime Ministers. Everyone in attendance, students and staff alike, found the day informative and left feeling inspired, whether to explore their writing talents or become more engaged in making a positive impact on the world. Thank you @sufiyaahmed for visiting our school.

UK Parliament Week is an annual festival taking place from the 6-12th November 2023, which engages students from across the UK with their UK Parliament, explores what it means to them and empowers them to get involved.
The week started with an assembly, led by Mrs Bower-Gormley, explaining what UK Parliament Week is and how our students can join the UK-wide conversation about our democracy, people power and making change happen. Our student council election details were also announced, along with a request for students to consider if they would like to run for our school council.
This morning we were delighted to welcome Amanda Solloway, MP for Derby North. Amanda met with our student council representatives in the library and our A-level Politics students. Thank you to Amanda for visiting our school. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to ask lots of questions and get informed about how they can engage with UK Parliament to make a difference.

Well done and thank you to all our performers who contributed to last night’s wonderful Primary Teatime Concert. Our series of Primary Teatime Concerts provide an opportunity for our Primary pupils to showcase all the hard work they are doing in lessons and at home. It was fantastic to see so many pupils perform for the first time and how our older pupils are flourishing with their chosen instrument.

Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon on Tuesday! Alistair from @hawkeye_falconry_uk brought various different birds of prey into school for the children to see up close and learn about. One very special member of his family was the peregrine falcon - the fastest flying bird on Earth! He was breathtakingly beautiful and it was a sheer joy to be so very close to this apex predator. We also met a number of different owls, including one native to South America which disguises itself as a monkey!
During the afternoon, the children had the opportunity to handle, hold, fly the birds and ask Alistair questions. A few lucky children even felt their cheeks and noses being skimmed and brushed against by the tail feathers of these magnificent birds.

Our group of GCSE and A level geographers are having an amazing time in Iceland. After a comfortable flight they headed straight out to see some of the incredible natural features this beautiful island has to offer. Stops included visiting the "Bridge between Continents", a fissure in the crust of the earth where the Eurasian plate is inching away from the North American plate at about the speed your fingernails grow! The students then visited the Fagradalsfjall lava flow, a lava flow that erupted in 2021 and 2022 but has now solidified- still giving off plenty of gas and steam.

Last night`s Lower School production, "My Very Own Story," was nothing short of spectacular. A story by Alan Ayckbourn, which revolves around three story tellers and their amazingly quirky stories, truly came alive on stage with thanks to the amazing Year 7 to Year 9 cast. The incredible performance, filled with humour and heart, exemplified the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that we hold dear in our school. Congratulations to everyone involved. Today we have donned our yellow accessories and joined in the `Hello Yellow` campaign to raise awareness for mental health. In Primary we highlighted this through the concept of `kindness`. In all classes, pupils were busy working on ways that they can demonstrate kindness. From positive postcards to learning how to say kind things to make each other feel happy- we all had a great day!

Well done to all the children who joined us today for our Senior School Discovery Day. Everyone was so engaged in our CSI Forensic Science Workshop. Thank you to Pulse CSI for delivering a fantastic day. It was wonderful to see the ‘hands-on’ science and practical learning, with the children taking on the role of a Crime Scene Investigaton. Thank you also to our Sixth Form students who have helped throughout the day.

Yesterday’s Senior assembly was led by Dr Mathews and marked the beginning of Black History Month. This year`s Black History Month went with the theme of `Saluting Our Sisters` and considered the contribution that black women make every day. The focus was on black women now, that are making history, by making a difference. The message of the assembly is that black women have always made history, even if they haven`t always made the history books.
With thanks to Hannah, Year 10, for sharing her beautiful artwork.
