Our School

Vision & Values

Derby High is a coeducational independent day school with over 660 boys and girls aged 3-18, conveniently situated on the outskirts of Derby.

Derby High School prides itself on its friendliness, and visitors to the school invariably comment on the calm and happy atmosphere in the school and the excellent relationships between the children and the staff.

One of the great strengths of the school is its broad social and cultural intake.

The school has a Christian foundation in the Anglican tradition, but our school community includes those of all faiths and none and while our values maintain our Christian tradition, we seek to learn from and celebrate the diversity of cultures and beliefs within the school.

Derby High was awarded the highest possible ‘Excellent’ rating following a full inspection from the Independent Schools Inspectorate in January 2023. Being a member of The Heads’ Conference (HMC), a prestigious association of leading independent schools in the UK and around the world, recognises our commitment to academic excellence, innovation in education, and a dedication to providing our students with the best possible educational experience.

Derby High is a vibrant and successful school.

Over the Easter break there has been a lot of hard work going on at Derby High School! We are very excited to be moving into our new building this week. From next Tuesday, the start of summer term, our whole school will be dining in our brand-new refectory. The new courts have now been painted and the new changing facilities are ready to be used.
Thank you to everyone who continues to work throughout the break to ensure we can use our new building at the start of next term.

Looks great. Will parents be invited to come and have a look?

Golly! I remember having dinner in the top part of the gymnasium and getting changed for hockey in the (very smelly) underground changing rooms. It looks fantastic! I bet I wouldn't even recognise most of the school now, it has changed so much! ❤️

Looks amazing 👏

This week the Year 13 Physicists took a break from their busy schedules in school to visit Jodrell Bank Observatory in Manchester. Starting with a chance to have a go at some hands-on activities they then attended a workshop where, using data from the world leading Lovell Radio Telescope and their A level understanding of circular motion, gravitational fields and astrophysics, they were able to calculate the mass of the universe! They then had a very enjoyable planetarium show on how the elements are made from stars and after lunch had a chance to fully explore all the exhibits on display including an exhibition on astrophotography.
Following the all-important trip to the gift shop, it was time to head home. This was a fun end to 2 years of hard work in Physics for our Year 13 and a great way to support their learning.

Children`s Mental Health Week starts tomorrow, and we will be actively participating in various activities to support and promote the emotional well-being of our pupils.
As part of our commitment to this important cause, we would like to remind parents and students that tomorrow is a non-uniform day. All proceeds will go towards Bridge the Gap Child Mental Health C.I.C. This incredible organisation is a local, emotional literacy-based service that merges healthcare and education to assist children in exploring and understanding their emotions.
For more information, please see Friday`s High Notes and last week`s Highpost. Thank you for your support.
