The subjects offered in our Sixth Form offer a strong foundation and range that will allow progression to the majority of degree courses. In the Sixth Form students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for extending their own learning as well as receiving an excellent and thorough preparation for examinations by experienced specialist staff. Classes are much smaller, allowing more time for individual attention and students are encouraged to collaborate and communicate with teachers in a more mature way.

All GCSE subjects are offered to A Level with the addition of Business, Further Mathematics and Psychology. (The full list is available in the Sixth Form options brochure.) The Sixth Form Options grid is not fixed but is written each year to provide as many of the girls with as many of their individual choice combinations as possible.

It is usual for most Sixth Form pupils at Derby High to choose four subjects at AS Level in the L6 and carry three on to A level in the U6. However, in some cases concentrating on three subjects either from the start or after an initial trial period is more appropriate. We also provide an enrichment curriculum which includes PE, Careers and a General Studies programme of speakers and lessons to broaden the students' outlook and interview potential as well as leading to an extra A Level qualification.  Please click here to view and download information about our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme.
