House Music

The House Music Festival takes place annually during the Spring Term, offering valuable performing opportunities for soloists, duets and ensembles plus choirs and orchestras. The House Choir trophy is keenly contested by all the girls in the Senior School.

The Finals Day, with an outside adjudicator and a large school audience, provides a very high standard of music-making and is one of the major events of the school year.

This year's House Music final took place on Tuesday 3rd March in the Senior Hall. The initial heats saw all 160 entrants audition before finalists were selected in a range of senior and intermediate categories, including strings, woodwind, brass and vocal.

Malcolm Goldring, who is an experienced examiner, musician and choral director, acted as the external adjudicator.

Overall awards were given to Catriona Judd, who was named as Intermediate Musician Of The Year and Joanne Skinner, who was Senior Musician Of The Year.

Joanne, who has offers to study music at Cambridge University and the Royal Northern College of Music said she was “thrilled” to receive the top honour this year.

The House Choir shield went to St George for best choir performance.  For footage of the House Choir competition click here.
