Transition to Seniors

Internal Applicants

For our girls, entrance to the Senior School is automatic on the condition that a girl's work and progress demonstrates that she is ready to make the transition. A scholarship exam may be taken in January of Y6 if you wish your daughter to be considered for a scholarship.

Every effort is made to ensure that the transition between our Junior and Senior schools is as smooth as possible. Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils are already accustomed to eating daily in the Senior School dinner hall.  All those joining the Senior School attend a bridging morning and induction afternoon (held in June) and are assigned a ‘buddy’ in the year group above them to help introduce them to Senior school life.

Our boys transfer at the end of Y6 to a variety of schools – Derby Grammar, Trent College, Abbotsholme, Denstone College or local state schools. Our teaching staff are able to advise parents during KS2 on the most suitable options for each pupil and support parents through the process of application and transition.

External Applicants

Girls wishing to join the Senior School at the age of 11 sit the Entrance Examination which normally takes place in January. Please see the Senior Admissions page for further information.
